Welcome to AntiBarkCollar-4Less.com! Training with an Anti Bark Collar Training |
Introducing the dog to the Anit Bark Collar:
Before owners start training with an activated anti bark control system, owners should first get the dog accustomed to the collar while it is deactivate. By spending a couple of days introducing the dog to the device, owners can avoid other problems from developing. You do not want the dog to fear the collar when you want them to wear it. Introduce the dog to the collar by doing the following.
Day One:
- Positive reinforcement is the most effective type of reinforcement. You must select a reward (a small piece of food) that the dog finds to be very desirable and will accept every time to assist with training.
- The dog owner must place the bark control collar around the dog's neck for approximately two to three hours. Make sure the collar is fitted in the same manner that it will be during activated training. Refer to the manual to ensure the collar is fitted properly.
- After the collar has been on the dog’s neck for a short period of time, give the dog a food reward. Repeat this reward several times, as the dog wears the collar.
Day Two:
Repeat day one’s procedures for over a five to six hour period. Continue to reward the dog during this procedure.
Day Three:
Once the dog is comfortable with having the collar put on, this will be the first day that the dog receives the correction from the now active collar. Be prepared for the dog to become startled by the first static correction, as the dog will not be expecting it. It is important that this part of the training be supervised by the owner and performed in an environment with few distractions. The dog must be able to make the connection between the corrective pulse and their barking. Doing this in a noisy and busy environment will cause confusion.
Training with an Anti Bark Collar:
Before placing an activated collar on the dog, carefully choose the first situation in which it is going to be used. This situation should be one in which the dog will learn easily, i.e., one with few distractions. If owners do train in a situation with distractions, the dog may not associate the correction with the barking. For example, when the dog first barks and there is a visitor present, the dog may perceive the visitor as being the cause of the correction, instead of the barking.
The initial training situation should also be one in which owners can observe the dog's first few reactions to the anti bark collar. This will help to gain the dog’s trust. Do not leave the dog alone the first few times they will receive a correction. Train the dog only in the initial situation until they have learned what the consequence to barking are. Only then should owners move on to the next situation. This will help ensure that the dog understands that barking is the behavior to avoid, no matter what the reason for barking might be.
